Son’s Addition

Son's Addition | 2990 24th St, San Francisco, CA 94110

You know you’ve had a good meal when you leave stuffed, but you can’t stopped talking about how perfectly cooked the octopus was, or how it was one of the best potatoes you’ve ever had, or how melt in your mouth delicious the uni butter was.

My friend and I came to Son’s Addition because she saw pretty pictures on Instagram and wanted to try. I’m never opposed to trying out a new restaurant, and even better that there is someone to try it with.

Son’s Addition is located in the Mission District in San Francisco. You can take the BART there, but still have to walk a bit (I think about 10 minutes). The Mission is known for shady streets, but I felt like it was alright walking there when there was still daylight out.

The Restaurant

Even though it was in the Mission (typically known for homeless people and hole in the walls – just being real here), it was a really nice and clean modern restaurant on the corner of 24th and Harrison. I love the open space and hints of blue color in their black and white color scheme.

The Food

All the food was pretty much amazing, which is why I had to share with this post.

Tuna & Uni Toastada

My friend and I both love uni and so it was only right that we started with the tuna and uni toastada. We squeezed a little bit of lime and each of our bites was a combination of crunchy, salty, tangy and buttery. The chip added a great crunchy texture while the avocado and uni added a smooth buttery texture, and the pickled vegetables and the lime added a nice tang. What a flavor bomb in your mouth!

Chicken Liver Mousse Toast

I’m sad to say that I think our toast was a little burnt. Sometimes I actually like it because it gives it a nice grilled/charcoal flavor, but this one was a little too much. Despite that, the chicken liver mousse was so light and soft and the seasoning on top gave it a pinch more flavor. The flavor and texture of this was really good, minus the burnt toast.

Charred Spanish Octopus

This was one of my favorites tonight. Have you ever had the most tender and perfectly cooked octopus? This is one of those times. This was where you can really taste the grilled (not burnt) flavor, and sink your teeth into the softest, most tender pieces of octopus. Whatever the dressing mixed into it was amazing as well and I couldn’t stop eating this dish until it was gone.

Grilled Hanger Steak

Along with a tender octopus dish was followed by a tender steak dish. It was cooked a perfect medium (per our request) and had a melt in your mouth uni butter on top. Each bite of steak was so easy to eat and you can taste how juicy the steak was. The asparagus were cooked perfectly as well – lightly seasoned and had a nice crisp to each bite. And then potatoes… they were cooked whole, then smashed a little, and were so soft on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. It was like eating a perfectly fried french fry except it was a whole potato! As much as I loved the steak and uni butter, the potato was definitely one of the highlights of this dish… and probably the highlight of the meal!

Son’s Addition is a great place to catch up with friends or grab a delicious dinner. Aside form the burnt toast, everything was delicious and all the meats were cooked to perfection. There were so many great textures and flavors as well. Come and treat yourself to a nice meal here!
